Rossi Woodworkers
The existence of this workshop dates back to the early 1900s when Armando Rossi began his apprenticeship, first in a workshop where carts were built, then in Rome with a company manufacturing doors, windows, and furniture. Finally, he returned to Cortona to open his own workshop in the late 1920s. Aside from the three years when Armando was called to serve in the Second World War, the workshop has remained active to this day.
Subsequently, Armando’s son, Umberto, took over the craft after returning from Montreal, where he had lived and honed his skills in the workshop of an Italian carpenter and other European artisans. Umberto enhanced the quality of furniture manufacturing not only by revising technical aspects but also by personally crafting wrought iron parts, keys, locks, and hinges.
Due to various reasons, he gradually had to reduce furniture production but managed to use his knowledge and techniques to create pieces that brought even more prestige to the workshop. In 2014, Umberto’s son, Giancarlo, followed in his father’s footsteps, thus preserving the knowledge and traditions while keeping the tools of this ancient craft sharp.
